Kindreds is where musicians go to find their creative kindred spirits.

(That's a fancy way of saying finally find the jam buddies you've been looking for.)

(possibly asked questions)

You know how dating apps work? Well, this is kinda like that but instead of finding someone to cuddle with on a cold, lonely night, Kindreds helps musicians find other musicians that they can jam and make music with. Kindreds is also the perfect app if you are looking for that illusive missing piece of your band or a sub for your upcoming gig.

  1. Create a profile, list down your instrument, and the style of music you like to play.
  2. Choose a list of preferred instruments and styles of musicians you would like to work with.
  3. View other artists profiles one by one and choose whether to kultivate, appreciate or kollaborate (more on this below).
  4. When you mutually click kollaborate with another artist, a kollab is created, enabling you to chat and collaborate with each other, setting the stage for fresh dopeness.

After viewing a profile and watching their videos, swipe up and you will see these options. You have the option to kultivate, appreciate , kollaborate or X out - and can only choose one.

  • Kultivate - When you kultivate, you want to see the artist again in the near future, when they have honed their style and skills (a nicer way of saying you like their style, but maybe practice some more). After two months, you'll see the artist's profile again.

The artist will see an anonymous count people that have clicked kultivate on their profile, with an option of getting anonymous feedback.
  • Appreciate - When you see a profile that doesn't quite fit your style but is still pretty good, choose appreciate. The artist will have the option of sharing his social media links for you to follow.

The artist will also see the number of times his profile has been appreciated.
  • X - You can X out if you never want to see this profile again.
  • Kollaborate - If you are interested in forming a band or creating something with the artist, tap kollaborate. The only time you get to interact with another artist is when you mutually click on kollaborate. When this happens, a Kollab chat is created. You can chat and share files with each other on the Kollab chat.

When you kollaborate a profile, your profile will be prioritized to show first on the other profile's feed.

In a world where the solo, lick, and chop influencers are getting all of the attention and recognition (nothing against them by the way, they are amazing), Kindreds would like everyone else to be able to find their opportunity to meet others to make, perform, and be recognized for making great music. Some people are too busy with work, some are too far from other like minded artists, some are introverts who would rather not blind approach others to jam. All of them working on their craft in their living rooms/bedrooms/basements, hoping to someday find the perfect group to make music with. This app is for you guys. Kindreds is where artists go to find their creative kindred spirits.

. . . aaand there's also those awkward situations in online groups when someone is looking for a bassist/singer/drummer/etc . . .with this and that style . . . and they have to screen each other in front of everyone else in the group. Very awkward. No need for those anymore, just kollab with someone who matches your style on Kindreds and start exploring musical possibilities.

Good (hypothetical) question. The app is in what the startup world calls the MVP phase. MVP means minimum viable product. At this point, this app is in an experimental phase to see wether or not people actually even want to use an app with these basic features. We do have a list of a lot more possible features that we can add in the future, but in the meantime, we would like to focus on figuring out a couple of things:

  • first: wether or not people actually will find this app useful and want to use it.
  • second: if the above point is true, what additional feature would be the most useful, and should be prioritized to be added to help musicians meet other musicians.
  • Profiles appear one by one on your feed based on your the listed priority instruments in your settings.
  • The algorithm will first try to find profiles within your current city, from farthest to nearest.
  • When potential matches run out in your city, you move on to your state/region, from nearest to farthest.
  • When that runs out, the algorithm searches everywhere for possible matches.
  • The algorithm will try to load twenty profiles at a time to your queue, and will re load when the batch of twenty runs out.
  • if the algorithm cannot find any profiles based on your priority instruments, explore mode turns on and loads ten profiles.
  • When your queue runs out, the algorithm repeats from step two.

* we'd like to be as transparent as possible when it comes to how the app works, but there will be times when the algorithm will, as necessary, change or adjust.

When you run out of possible matches based on your priority instruments, we show you everyone else, so keep an open mind! Your feed will go back to normal as soon as new profiles of your preference are available.
